Candy Stripes
Candy Stripes
Sometimes when a fabric speaks to you, it shouts, and when I glimpsed these materials while looking for inspiration, I knew it had struck. The curtains I dismantled to make this piece have been done justice, as this statement piece now walks the streets. I love the vertical stripe which brings height to the model, and the way that this pattern has been split in the middle with the belt, and the pocket details. Large pockets were a must for this piece, as utility is crucial, and a tie belt felt convenient, so that the garment can be removed and put on with ease. When I was initially doing the sleeves, I had debated a shorter cap, but I decided that the mid length sleeve of the final garment would make for a more versatile option. This piece has a special place in my heart as well, because our family colours are gold and red, so a bit of that essence will forever be present.
